Move To Fun Just another WordPress site Mon, 19 Feb 2018 18:28:07 +0000 en-US hourly 1 If a Tendon Raises Up When You Touch Your Pinky to Your Thumb, Here’s What It Means Mon, 19 Feb 2018 18:26:41 +0000 Biological proof of evolution.

Evolution is a fascinating and mysterious thing. The concept that all mammals are in some way related – including ourselves – is something so complex that it’s hard to wrap our minds around sometimes. But proof of our ancestral past, evolving from apes to Neanderthals and eventually to the Homo Sapiens we are today, can be found everywhere. A prime spot for evolutionary proof? In our very own bodies!

So many of our internal and external features are simply traits carried down from our ancestors before us. Some of them have essentially no use to us anymore, now that most people are no longer scavenging for food or roaming like nomads from place to place. We still have these seemingly useless features, passed down from a time when they were essential to survival.

A chart of the stages of the evolution of man.

For instance, getting the goosebumps isn’t just a random phenomenon. When our mammal ancestors would get cold, goosebumps were a means of expanding their surface area to keep warm. A muscle attached to our arm hairs contracts when we’re cold, pulling the hair upright and causing a bump on the skin.

While this doesn’t do much for us nowadays (except making us whine that we should have brought a coat), we can still see modern mammals that revert to this biological instinct when it’s chilly outside. You’ve probably seen a pigeon all puffed up on a cold winter day, expanding its’ feathers to keep it warm. Even if an animal feels threatened – like when you sneak up on your cat – you’ll notice their fur will poof out. This defense mechanism is an ancient one, meant to deceive attackers by increasing ones size.

Goosebumps on Leslie from Parks and Rec.

But one really extraordinary hint of evolution is actually found within our arms. In our tendons, to be specific. There is a tendon that 10 – 15% of our human population has evolved out of, hinting to scientists that we humans are nowhere close to being finished with evolution. This tendon is attached to an ancient muscle called the palmaris longus, which was primarily used by tree-dwelling apes (lemurs and monkeys, for instance) to help them move from branch to branch. Humans and ground-central apes, like gorillas, no longer have a need for this muscle or tendon, so both species have started to lose this internal function.

However, evolution is a slow-going process, so almost 90% of humans still have this useless trait carried down from our monkey ancestors.

To see if you have the tendon, lay your forearm down on a table, palm up. Touch your pinky to your thumb and lift your hand just a little off the surface. If you see a raised band in the middle of your wrist, you have the tendon connected to your still-intact palmaris longus.

If you don’t – congrats, you’re evolving.

Biological proof of evolution.

Whether you have this tendon or not is extremely cool; having this tendon means that you have a link to our ancestral past right there in your body, and not having the tendon means that you are physical proof of further human evolution.

Is your mind blown yet?

What do you think of these cool evolutionary facts? Do you have this arm tendon or not? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

12 Stories About Surprises That Life Gives Us From Time to Time Wed, 14 Feb 2018 20:03:10 +0000 Every so often, life will throw you an enormous curve ball that you just weren’t quite prepared for.

Internet users on the popular website Reddit rallied together to share stories in their past experiences with the world giving them the biggest surprises of their lives.

Many of these stories are shocking or heart-warming. The following 12 people shared experiences close to their hearts about times that life gave them a big surprise.

1) The Hubby’s Surprise:

My hubby and I joke around. Sometimes when he comes home, he asks in an angry voice “where is he?” suggesting I have a lover hidden somewhere. Well, once during my lunch break, I entered our apartment, and yelled “where is she?” … in the bathroom I saw a woman who was the head of our community in charge of reading the water flow meters. She blushed and quickly left saying “I am leaving. Let your husband explain everything to you!” (Reddit user: deleted)

2) The Twist:

When I was 19, I was casually seeing a girl. One day I found a lump on my testicle and it turns out I had cancer. I told her I didn’t want to see her anymore because I didn’t want to put her through the trauma or tragedy that I could be her dead boyfriend. After extensive chemo, she never left my side. I was told I’d be sterile. Fast forward 6 years, and we’re married, with our 3rd kid on the way! (Reddit user: HypnoticGremlin)

3) Vasectomy:

In January I had a vasectomy. In April of that year, my wife became pregnant. In December we had a son born. In January of the next year, I had ANOTHER vasectomy. (Reddit user: RideShark)

4) The Lie:

When I was 19 I found my adoption papers in a box at my house despite being told my whole life that my parents were my biological parents! (Reddit user: Ridiculous_Diagnosis)

5) The Calling: I quit my professional job with two week’s notice, quoting John Muir “the mountains are calling and I must go.” Now I make peanuts at a nice ski resort. Luckily, I love peanuts. (Reddit user: 160degrees)

6) Orientation: I was firmly convinced that I was asexual in my orientation. Then one day I sat down in Math class and realized a boy sitting near me was “hella cute.” Thus a gay was born. (Reddit user: deleted)

7) The Brother: When I was 17, I found out that the brother I grew up with my whole life wasn’t actually my brother. He’s still a brother to me though. (Reddit user: sgt-Donut23)

8) Lotto: Once, I was cleaning out the mountain of paperwork I had hoarded in my apartment and found a lotto ticket that I forgot to scratch nearly five years ago. I scratched it, and it was a $1,000 winner! (Reddit user: deleted)

9) The Surgery: A couple years ago, I found out that just after my birth I had a major surgery. Why? Because I was born without an anus! It blew my mind when I found out (Reddit user: ferra93)

10) Kept The Job: I was very close to getting fired by a manager who wanted to bring someone in from a different job. I came in for my second shift and found out this manager was fired and her boss was fired as well. I kept my job for many years. (Reddit user: breitbart_was_gay)

11) The Twin: I was adopted when I was very young. I went away on a summer camp trip when I was 12 and met my twin. It was such a fun surprise, but we realized we wanted to learn more about each other. So we went home with our parents as each other, and at the end of it, our parents got back together. (Reddit user: trapthem2gether.)

12) The Criminal Roommate: I recently moved out of a friend’s house where I lived for 3 years. I found out he was arrested for distribution and possession of inappropriate adult content featuring children. (Reddit user: FancyShrimp)

Wife finishes 14-hour shift and eats sandwich alone. Then husband makes viral post on Facebook Tue, 13 Feb 2018 20:03:32 +0000 Phillip Urtz lives in Rome, New York, with the love of his life – his wife Jessica. She’s a stroke nurse who cares and treats others day in and day out. Phillip understands just how stressful her job is. While she may never show signs of exhaustion or fatigue, he knows she comes home feeling overworked and weary.

To show how much he cares and supports her, Phillip penned an open letter on Facebook dedicated to his wife.

After Jessica finished a 14-hour shift, she returned home ready for rest. She made herself a quick dinner, a sandwich, and headed off to bed, ready to recharge and get back to work the very next day. That’s when Phillip decided to show his wife just how much he appreciated her.

Just wait until you see what he wrote on Facebook…

“This is my wife Jessica having dinner after a 14 hour day. She comes home from work, has enough time to eat and get ready for bed and it’s back to work the next day for another shift.”

Source: Facebook/Phillip Urtz

“She is up early to get ready for her day. She doesn’t like to be bothered in the morning and I respect that. She showers, throws her hair up, grabs her lunch gives the dog and me a kiss and heads out the door.”

“At work she takes care of people who are having the worst days of their lives. Strokes, Car accidents, motorcycle accidents, falls, breaks, brain damage and more. She takes care of mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, friends and families. It doesn’t matter who you are or what happened. She will take care of you.

Source: Facebook/Phillip Urtz

She works through lunch and rarely has time to sit. She comes home after 14 hours, takes off her shoes that have walked through blood and tears, and just wants to sit down. I don’t ask her about her day because She doesn’t like to talk about work when she is home and that’s fine.”

Source: Facebook/Phillip Urtz

“If she does want to talk, I will listen. Sometimes she comes home happy and sometime she comes home sad. But no matter how she feels, she is always on time for her next shift.”

“I love her with all my heart. My wife is my hero. My wife is a Stroke Nurse.”

Please SHARE this husband’s touching message if you believe all spouses should have this love and respect for their significant other!

Please note: this post was originally inspired by Bobby Wesson’s Facebook post. You can find it below.

This is my wife taking a nap. In an hour she will wake up, put on her scrubs and get ready for work.

The tools and items she needs to perform her job will be gathered and checked meticulously – her hair and makeup will be done quickly. She will complain that she looks awful. I will disagree, emphatically, and get her a cup of coffee.

She will sit on the couch with her legs crossed under her and try to drink it while happily playing with the toddler that’s crawling all over her.

She will occasionally stare off blankly as we talk; silently steeling herself for the coming shift. She thinks I don’t notice.

She will kiss the baby, she will kiss me and she will leave to go take care of people that are having the worst day of their entire lives. Car wrecks, gunshot wounds, explosions, burns and breaks – professionals, poor, pastors, addicts and prostitutes – mothers, fathers, sons, daughters and families – it doesn’t matter who you are or what happened to you.

She will take care of you.

She will come home 14 hours later and remove shoes that have walked through blood, bile, tears and fire from aching feet and leave them outside.

Sometimes she will not want to talk about it. Sometimes she can’t wait to talk about it.
Sometimes she will laugh until she cries and sometimes she will just cry – but regardless of those sometimes she will be on time for her next shift.

My wife is a nurse. My wife is a hero.”

Hairdresser Refuses To Shave Depressed Teen’s Hair, Spends 13 Hours Fixing It Wed, 31 Jan 2018 11:26:44 +0000 Depression sometimes makes even the most basic tasks, like brushing your hair in the morning, seem impossible. When a struggling 16-year-old girl came into an Iowa salon with tangled, matted locks, she told stylist Kayley Olsson to “just cut it all off.” Instead, Olsson worked a record-breaking 2 days and 13 hours to restore both the young lady’s hair and her confidence.

20-year-old Olsson, who works at Capri Waterloo salon, shared before and after photos of the incredible transformation on Facebook after completing the landmark makeover on August 8th, and the entire Internet was shook. The post went viral, with more than 75 thousand shares and almost 200 thousand likes. Most importantly, the young girl’s new ‘do was ready just in time for her back-to-school pictures!

On a more serious note, if you’re concerned that someone close to you may be experiencing depression or other mental health issues, their physical appearance may say even more than their words. Lack of personal hygiene and self-care is a serious symptom of chronic depression, and for women and girls, this often includes hair care. It’s amazing how something as simple as a haircut can do so much for a person’s spirit! See the amazing results for yourself below, and find out what people are saying about it.

An Iowa hairstylist recently shared this photo of a young client who came to her salon looking for help

The story behind this tangled mess of hair is now going viral, and for the best reasons

The girl’s hair was completely restored – as was her confidence! Can you recognize her from before?

Some people put the blame on the teen’s parents for the extent of her issues

Others, however, commended the stylist for her understanding and dedication

Bride-To-Be Hasn’t Cut Hip-Length Hair In Years So Stylist Totally Transforms Her For Wedding Wed, 31 Jan 2018 11:25:36 +0000 Hairstylists recommend getting a haircut every six months or so — this allows them to snip off the split ends and thin out any damaged hair.

Many of us aren’t able to find the time to schedule these appointments, so we often go a little longer than six months between snips.

And some people go much longer than a few months, like this woman, whose hair went untouched for 30 years.

Well, Holly didn’t quite go 30 years, but it was pretty close.

For years, Holly didn’t go to the hairdresser because she loved her long hair. After her father told her that women need long hair in order to be pretty, Holly never let go of those words.

Holly, who lives in Destin, Florida, had been stuck in a rut for years with her hair. She was about to get married, though, so she decided it was time for a change — and she went to see the hairstylists at Avant Garde Salon.

Holly, from Destin, Florida, believed her whole life that women needed long hair to be beautiful.

Because of that misconception, Holly let her hair grow and grow, until it hit her hips.

She finally decided it was time for a change before she got married, so she went to Avant Garde Salon for a makeover.

The hairstylists were blown away by Holly’s long, damaged locks.

The stylists immediately told Holly that her long hair had to go.

Hairstylist Jeremy Harfield sat her down in a salon chair, spun her around, and chopped off two feet of hair.

Once Holly’s hair was shorter, colorist Sara Pestella came in to work her magic.

Sara knew that Holly’s two-toned brown and blonde hair wasn’t working for her, so she used layers of blonde to give Holly a completely new look.

Holly began her transformation around 7 p.m., with her haircut. Her makeover wasn’t complete until after 2 a.m.

Sara’s color transformation was a four-step process, which is why it took so long to complete.

By the end of the evening, Holly looked stunningly different.

Once her hair was done, Holly also got her makeup done to complete the new look.

Most importantly, though, Holly finally feels beautiful in her own skin.

Not only does Holly look 15 years younger and a lot happier, her outside matches what’s inside.

Silly Family Of 16 Busts Into Joyful Christmas Dance That’s Lighting Up The Internet. Wed, 31 Jan 2018 11:23:44 +0000 The tradition started in 2012, when these 8 Utah siblings decided to choreograph a dance routine for their unsuspecting parents. And they had so much fun, of course, that it’s now become the family’s customary way to launch the holiday season.

Around this time each year, the siblings gather to practice and film their Christmas dance, with various other family members making cameo appearances. This year, that includes their parents, three in-laws, three nieces and three dogs!

Ammon Orgill, who spearheads the whole effort, posted this year’s dance earlier this week on his Facebook page. The entire clan, all clad in ugly Christmas sweaters, rock out for more than three minutes to Ariana Grande’s 2013 Christmas song, “Santa Tell Me.”

Ever since viewers caught wind of the tradition, they’ve eagerly awaited the latest installment. For others who are just now catching on, the video’s motivated them to create their own family traditions and happy memories.

“I come from a family of 12 brothers and sisters, there are close to 30 of us cousins…we are inspired by your video and are now plotting something for Christmas Eve,” one commenter wrote. “Thanks for making family look so cool!”

Look so cool? Family is cool!

It’s hard enough coordinating with two or three siblings, never mind eight. So while some disagreements may have broken out during the planning process, “at the end of the day we all do love it,” Ammon said in an interview after last year’s video was released. “We love spending time together and how it all brings us together.”

Watch this happy family’s perfectly synched moves in the video below, and share if you agree this is one family tradition that bears copying!

7 Photos to Test Your Intelligence Wed, 31 Jan 2018 11:22:56 +0000 Have you ever tried to test your own intelligence but could never come up with a way to do it? Well here are 11 pictures that can help you achieve just that. Don’t be fooled though, these pictures although may look similar at first glance, but the whole idea behind them, is to find out how they differ. Let’s take a look and see what we have here.

Have you carefully taken a look? If you are smart, you will be able to tell instantly what the difference in this picture is. However, if you pay too much attention to detail, like most people would, you will definitely miss it. Most people try to dwell too much into what she is wearing and the difference in the scenery outside the window, but the answer is so simple you will probably knock yourself in the head for missing it.

The answer lies in the bottom right of the picture. The one on the right has a small mouse hole at the bottom right corner.

Alright we will admit we are being a little unfair. In terms of difficulty this picture would definitely be categorized under legendary. It will for sure take you a while before you notice the difference in this one, so take it as a challenge for yourself and stop reading right now. In any case, we are going to continue telling you the difference, but under the assumption you did ponder over it a while. The difference, lies beside the right arm of Mona Lisa, as you will notice in the picture on the left has a background that is much lighter than the background of the picture on the right. Subtle, is it not? Well done if you were able to figure this one out on your own! Proceeding.

This particular picture has more than one difference, so might as well start pinching to zoom in if you’re on a phone. There might even be differences that we have personally missed, so if you have found one that we have not do point it out! Take your time viewing it? Are you done? Good. Well, of the differences that we found, one was on the top left corners. There is an airplane visible in the picture on the right, where as it is missing from the picture on the left. If you’re able to tell time, and because you are able to read this, we will assume you can, you will notice that the times on both the pictures are different. Then there is a lamp post missing in the picture on the right. This other difference which is highly illusive and you might only have caught it if you were looking for it, the number on the buses is different!

We’re once again faced with another hard one on the list. This particular picture can also take a while as it can render you in complete and utter dismay as you fail to notice what exactly could be different in this picture! What is it? You can tell it is so simple, and when it finally clicks you will realize how right you were. No, it was not the meter, though you definitely wished it was! No, it was not the orange knob that completely sticks out right in your face! And no there wasn’t one but two differences! At the bottom right of the screen there is a shade in the left picture. There isn’t one in the picture on the right. Also, the picture on the right has lesser bolts than the picture on the left.

We are sure you are doing well so far so let’s keep going! This picture known as the Space Photo, features art work of aliens and starships and if this doesn’t just click for you instantly, you could definitely be stuck looking at this for hours and possibly not get it. Starships generally do not have faces and we subconsciously register it as a cartoonish move, which might have gotten in the way of you not realizing, the difference was in the face the starship after all!

This is one the easiest ones on the list so far, so if you miss this, then we doubt you had any luck

with any of the other ones. If you looked anywhere other than the top of the frame in both pictures, then you definitely couldn’t see it. It is the branch!

All you Disney fans out there, we know you are excited to see this one on the list! Now this picture has an intrinsic amount of detail. Everything is so well placed that it could be anything. You might even skip on finding a difference in the characters because that would be so obvious wouldn’t it? So, you start looking for clues in the castle in the background, scouring your eyes over its many curves and arches, but when you realize where the difference really, you will probably want to kick yourself for jumping to conclusions.

If you loved Mikey mouse as a child, then like us you would have instantly admired him first and in that moment of admiration you would have instantly caught on the difference. For the average reader though, if you notice the ear, the picture in the left, Mickey Mouse seems to have a giant piercing.

It only gets harder from here. This is a picture of bridesmaid’s flower bracelets, and on first glance, they will definitely look as if there is absolutely no difference, but there actually is. Go ahead, take a closer look and you will see what we’re talking about. Have you noticed the differences yet? Come on, don’t make us do all the work! No? Oh well, maybe you might have more luck in the next one, or maybe you don’t need us to. In any case, the difference is the missing ribbon in the right picture that is dangling down the arm on the very right of the pictures. Took you a while didn’t it?

Another easy one! We’re sure you’ll get this one instantly but if you have not, we again have to suggest you take your time with this picture! The difference in this one is definitely subtle and if you don’t pay attention you will probably never be able to get it right. But if you are one the lucky ones who got it with in the first 5 minutes one can take the opportunity to feel smug about themselves. The difference here is near the middle right of the pictures. You will notice that in the picture on the right, there is a hut missing. Very subtle was this not? It took us a while too.

And finally! The closer. This picture can definitely take you a while as there is absolutely nothing in this picture that you might define as different. Looks like a plain old hut in the woods in both cases. But don’t be too quick to judge as this can be pretty tricky to spot, but it’s there. Have you found it yet? No? I guess we’ll just have to tell you again! Notice there’s a piece of wood missing in the foundation of the house right where the first pillar below the shed ends.

Shopper Tells Women Talking In Native Tongue To ‘Speak English’ – They Have The Perfect Reply Wed, 31 Jan 2018 11:21:56 +0000 Check out this mother and daughter’s reaction to a woman shopping at Walmart on Black Friday telling them to “speak the language.”

While many fixate on English being the official language of the United States, America does not technically have an official language. So, when you go out into public, it is common to hear a combination of different languages. Chances of hearing other languages are even greater when you make the decision to go to Walmart on Black Friday.

According to Jasmine Xiong’s now-viral Facebook post, she and her mother decided to shop at Walmart in Appleton, Wisconsin, on Black Friday. The two spoke in their native language – Hmong – while they had a conversation with each other.

What happened next shocked both Jasmine, her mother, and the nearly 400,000 people who have watched the video on Facebook.

USA Today notes another shopper approached Jasmine and her mother and told them they should “speak the language.” Before they continued to engage in conversation with this woman, one of the women decided to pull out a camera and record the situation.

In the video, you can hear the mother and daughter trying to understand why the woman thinks they need to “speak the language” when they are merely having a conversation with each other. The women did slightly note that while the conversation did not have anything to do with her, they should still speak English because they are in America.

The mother and daughter asked the woman if that meant she would speak Hmong if she came over to their house.

The woman said yes, but then she clarified that would only be necessary if she lived at their house. The woman also noted she would take classes and learn another language if she made plans to travel to another country. She proceeded to claim she took Spanish classes with plans to go to Mexico. The mother and daughter challenged the claim by asking her to speak Spanish. The woman responded by counting in Spanish which the mother and daughter brushed off as just about everyone learned how to count to 10 in Spanish. After all, it was more singing than counting.

The unidentified woman acted as if the mother and daughter attacked her for asking them to “speak the language” by asking them several times to stop yelling. Jasmine and her mother explained to the woman that her words were racist and that they had every right to be upset.

“I was really shocked and upset and offended that she would say something like that,” Jasmine told USA Today as she opened up about what happened and how it made her feel.

In 1976, the first 50,000 Hmong people arrived in the United States as refugees from the Laos and Vietnam war.

Wisconsin is home to the third-largest concentration of Hmong people, following California and Minnesota. In total, there are roughly 250,000 people of the Hmong ethnicity currently living in the United States.

Jasmine noted she started the recording near the end of the altercation between her and the other shopper to share the surprising experience with her family and friends. She never thought the video would attract so much attention on social media.

After seeing her video go viral, Jasmine’s biggest regret is not getting more of the altercation on film.

“I’ve never encountered something like that. I never thought I would.”

Unfortunately, USA Today noted this is not the first time that shoppers of another ethnicity were the victims of racist comments, and it likely will not be the last time, either.

World’s first twins with different skin colors are all grown up: How do they look today? Wed, 31 Jan 2018 11:20:59 +0000

Donna Aylmer cried with joy when she learned she was expecting twin girls.

But after the delivery, she took a serious look at her newborn twin girls.

One of them, Lucy, had red hair, blue eyes and a pale, freckled complexion. The second one, Maria, had brown skin, brown eyes and dark curly hair.

How could these two girls be twins?

Everyone in the family was shocked when they saw the very different-looking fraternal twins for themselves.

The entire situation puzzled mother Donna and numerous others — but the scientific explanation is quite simple.

Donna is half Jamaican and half British, while the girls’ father is British.

Lucy and Maria are fraternal twins, meaning that two different eggs were fertilized by two different sperm.

Genetically speaking, mother Donna has genes composed of both light and darker features, resulting in one twin having pale skin and the other having darker skin.

Unfortunately, their difference in color led to bullying and a tough upbringing, especially for Lucy.

“They thought I was adopted and called me a ghost,” says Lucy.

Maria, for her part, wished she was more like Lucy during her childhood.

“I used to cry often. I had curly hair. I wanted my sister’s beautiful, red hair,” she says.

Today, the two girls are very different – both physically and in terms of their personalities.

Maria is outgoing and interested in fashion, while Lucy is more reserved and likes art.

But while the two are opposites in so many ways, they’re as close as twins can be. They’re best friends and have learned to love themselves and their differences — with pride.

“If I have children one day, they may look like Lucy,” Maria says proudly.

Although they look different and no longer dress the same way, I do think they share the same beautiful smile.

It’s so wonderful to see these two lovely young women today!

Despite some setbacks, they seem to have such a great outlook on life. And they’re also proof that it’s what’s on the inside that counts!

Please take a look at the video below:

Please share Maria and Lucy’s story with your friends on Facebook. It’s really a good reminder that we should never judge a book by its cover.
